What is Fire Cupping?

Fire Cupping is often referred to as reverse massage. This unique cupping treatment involves warming and placing cups, made of glass, on the skin. By warming the air within the cup, a vacuum is created, and when it is applied to the skin, the tissue is drawn up into the cup.

This increases the blood flow, loosens the fascia or connective tissue, and is thought to stimulate healing.

Fire Cupping has been a fundamental component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for over 2,000 years. In TCM, it is believed that cupping helps to balance the flow of Qi (life force energy) and blood in the body, promoting healing and vitality.

Fire Cupping allows blood and Qi energy to flow much more freely through your body than previously. This non-invasive treatment is great for improving the health of your vital organs and reducing swelling and pain caused by inflammation. Consider it a one-stop anti-inflammatory treatment for your aches and pains.

Who can benefit from Fire Cupping?

Fire cupping is an increasingly popular self-care method. However, those with painful health conditions such as muscle tightness, fatigue, body aches and pain will most likely benefit from fire cupping therapy.

Benefits of Fire Cupping include:

  • Pain relief – cupping is often used to alleviate musculoskeletal pain, such as back pain, neck pain, and joint pain.
  • Improve circulation – cupping is thought to enhance blood and lymphatic circulation, which can aid in detoxification and reduce inflammation.
  • Stress reduction – many individuals find cupping to be relaxing and stress reducing. It can help to promote a sense of wellbeing and relaxation.
  • Respiratory benefits – cupping may help to relieve respiratory conditions like ashma and bronchitis by improving lung function and reducing congestion.

Contraindications for Fire Cupping

While fire cupping can offer numerous benefits, it is not suitable for everyone. It is essential to consider contraindications to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the therapy.

As with any new client, Ann will do a thorough consultation prior to delivering this treatment.

Cupping is best avoided if you suffer from certain Skin conditions – certain blood disorders- if you are prescribed and are taking certain medications and if you are pregnant. Please Note: Cupping can leave markings on the skin where applied. Depending upon the intensity of cupping applied, markings can disappear within ‘approximately’ 7-14 days, but this can be dependent upon a person’s skin colour i.e. lighter the skin, the longer marks may still be present.

After care for Fire Cupping:

  • Avoid excessive heat – after cupping, avoid exposure to extreme heat, such as steam rooms or saunas, as your skin may be more sensitive.
  • Protect the treated area – keep the cupped areas covered and protect them from cold and draughts.
  • Rest and relax – allow your body to rest after a cupping treatment, which will help to maximise its therapeutic effects. Its perfectly fine to go home and have a lay down or even take a short nap.
