Ann's acupuncture learning journey

When I started out in learning different kinds of healing techniques in 2018, I came across a Training Company called Bookings – OMT Training. This is where I started to learn medical Acupuncture (Dry Needling) for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain with a gentleman called Mr Giles Gyer. I thoroughly enjoyed the course, met some great therapists and wanted to continue adding to my skill set.

Following on from this, I found Home – Total Therapy Training and enrolled onto various courses over the years. So, in February 2021 and then April 2021 I enrolled onto the Tendon & Ligament healing-including Acupuncture courses taught by Chris Davies, a great facilitator and very experienced therapist in his own right.

I now use these methods of needling taught by Chris, to help repair injured and damaged muscles, tendons and ligaments for my clients.

I have received plenty of needles myself, over the years, to help repair my sore knees, various muscles and have even had them inserted into my face for cosmetic purposes. I truly believe in their power that they have to repair and heal the body.

How Can Inserting Acupuncture Needles help to repair the body?

Firstly, the needles used are single use, high quality grade. They are filament thin, not like a needle from a hospital point of view. I know some of my clients are a bit cagey about using this kind of therapy, as some of you can have a phobia of needles. Please don’t worry. Be brave, try the treatment first, then look at it objectively. Did it work for you- Yes, therefore you can get a much quicker repair and healing response and get back to what you were doing.

Tendon Acupuncture is the use of fine needle insertions in a combination of specific ashi, local and distal acupuncture points to restore the damaged tendon to near full length and capacity. The tendon protocol is an extraordinary technique, and its effects can be felt immediately whilst the healing process may be shortened by weeks or even months.

What does Tendon acupuncture do?

Tendon acupuncture works to do several actions simultaneously, firstly it induces a healing response through micro trauma, which works to promote collagen production. This also increases the blood supply, drawing Qi and fluids into the area.

Alongside this, the acupuncture also works to break down damaged fibres and clear out stagnation from the damaged tissues.

Finally, acupuncture reduces pain signals, allowing for an increased range of movement in the stretching out of the tendon.

Ligament Acupuncture

What Issues can Tendon Acupuncture address?

Tendon acupuncture specifically address all tendon and ligament issues and injuries; however, the technique can be used for muscular injuries as well. So, shortened tendons from sporting injuries as well as partial ruptures can be treated.

Consultation with Ann at Chinley Massage

So, when you book in to see Ann at Chinley Massage, you can be assured that prior to having any form of treatment, Ann will go through a thorough clinical consultation, where she will check with you that it is safe to perform this modality.

Post treatment self-care

Do not do heavy exercise after a treatment although some light exercise is beneficial. Try to get some sleep early, so the body can repair during the night. Preferably before 11pm.

Exercise may be progressively introduced and increased after a few weeks of rest. Returning to training in a controlled manner works to strengthen and stretch the tendon or Ligament.
